Meanwhile, the number of people who died in Tamil Nadu after consuming illicit liquor has risen to 57, according to updated information released by the district administration on Monday.
Vignesh, son of deceased Jaya Murugan who died after consuming illicit liquor in Tamil Nadu's Kallakurichi, said on Sunday that if he had known earlier that the liquor was spurious, he could have saved multiple lives in his village Madavancheri.
As per the Kallakurichi district administration's report, a total of 220 people were admitted at hospitals in Tamil Nadu with new admissions being four, after the consumption of spurious liquor.
Following Union Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman's remarks on the Kallakurichi Hooch tragedy which claimed 56 lives so far, Congress leader K Suresh said on Sunday that the hooch tragedy happened in Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP)-ruled states too, but she "closed her eyes" at those times.
The bodies of the people who died after consuming illicit liquor in Tamil Nadu's Kallakurichi and were buried without postmortem were exhumed on Sunday to confirm the spurious liquor consumption for providing ex-gratia.

As per the information shared by the District Collectorate, Kallakurichi, there were a total of 216 patients admitted to four hospitals in Tamil Nadu after consuming illicit liquor.
Tamil Nadu BJP State Secretary SG Suryah on Saturday targeted Tamil Nadu Chief Minister MK Stalin's DMK government over the Kallakurichi Hooch tragedy, stating that the state government should do more than just give Rs 10 lakh to the families of the victims.
