Everything important in the country can't come to Supreme Court, said the top court on Tuesday as it declined an urgent hearing of the plea relating to the Joshimath sinking incident.
Chamoli District Magistrate Himanshu Khurana on Tuesday said buildings marked unsafe in Joshimath town will be demolished in a scientific manner, under the supervision of the team of experts from the Central Building Research Institute (CBRI) Roorkee.
Amid civilian fears in the wake of land subsidence in the Joshimath area, fresh cracks were seen on some houses in Bahuguna Nagar of Karnaprayag Municipality in the Chamoli district of Uttarakhand.
Authorities at Joshimath said on Tuesday that they will start demolishing hotels and houses in the holy town, which developed cracks in the wake of the landslide and subsidence.
As per the official statement, the inauguration ceremony will also be addressed by Birla along with Chief Minister of Rajasthan, Ashok Gehlot, Deputy Chairman of Rajya Sabha, Harivansh and Speaker of Rajasthan Legislative Assembly Dr CP Joshi.
Officials of the National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA) called on Uttarakhand Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami at the Chief Minister's residence on Monday and discussed the relief and rescue operations that raised after landslides in Joshimath.
A team from the Ministry of Home Affairs will visit Joshimath in Uttarakhand's Chamoli, where land subsidence has occurred, district magistrate, Himanshu Khurana said on Monday.
In view of the land subsidence in Joshimath, Uttarakhand Chief Secretary SS Sandhu instructed the officials to vacate the affected area without any delay and make proper arrangements for the people at the place where they are being shifted.
Joshimath, which is witnessing land subsidence forcing the Uttarakhand government to shift the locals to safer places, has been divided into three zones based on the magnitude of possible danger, an official said on Monday.
This comes after the Joshimath area was declared disaster-prone following cracks developing in the buildings of city. According to Chamoli District Disaster Management Authority, 603 buildings in Joshimath town have developed cracks so far.
With the prevailing situation in Joshimath grim in the wake of the land subsidence incident, the Chamoli District Magistrate Himanshu Khurana said all dangerous buildings in the holy town have been marked with a red 'X' symbol.
