The Jammu-Srinagar National Highway has been blocked following landslides at Kishtwari, Pather and Banihal, said Jammu and Kashmir traffic police on Tuesday.
Senior Superintendent of Police of Udhampur, Vinod Kumar, while talking about the incident, said that one pilgrim is in serious condition after the incident.
Security has been scaled up across Udhampur district in view of the Independence Day celebrations on August 15, with security forces patrolling and manning the Jammu-Srinagar National Highway.
The yatra was temporarily halted due to landslides that occurred along the Jammu-Srinagar National Highway, which connects the starting point of the pilgrimage in Jammu to its destination in Srinagar.
The annual pilgrimage to the holy cave shrine of Shri Amarnath from Jammu to Srinagar was suspended on Wednesday due to a landslide on the Jammu-Srinagar National Highway, officials said.
Amarnath Yatra which was halted at Cahbdrkote base camp in Ramban due to closing of Jammu Srinagar National Highway, has resumed from Chandrkote base camp.
In this regard, the official media handle of Jammu and Kashmir police took to Twitter and said," Traffic update at 0630 hrs: Jammu-Srinagar NHW blocked due to landslide at T2. People are advised not to travel until restoration work is completed."
