Following fresh snowfall in Himachal Pradesh during the past 24 hours, many roads have been closed and a number of power supply and water supply schemes have been disrupted, as per the state disaster management authority.
The fog condition in New Delhi worsened again on Sunday morning. Visibility recorded at the Indira Gandhi International (IGI) Airport was 400 metres as per IMD, though it is expected to increase to 800M till the early hours of Sunday evening.
Dr. Soma Sen Roy, IMD Scientist said, "Amid the upcoming western disturbance, intense weather conditions are likely to be seen over the North Indian region. Correspondingly, we are expecting cold weather, especially over the western Himalayan region."
Several flights scheduled to depart from the Indira Gandhi International Airport, Delhi were delayed due to low visibility amid fog on Friday, according to the airport authorities.
Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) on Thursday predicted dry weather in Karnataka owing to light to moderate winds which is prevailing over the state's lower tropospheric levels.
As the cold wave condition continues to prevail in Himachal Pradesh, Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) on Thursday predicts more snow and rainfall in the higher regions of the state for the next two days.
"The western disturbances are likely to affect the Himalayan region from the night of January 20 to January 26 while the plains of the northwest will be affected from January 23 to January 25," tweeted IMD.
