Heavy rains have put normal lives on hold in several parts of Navsari, Gujarat. The spell of showers led to severe waterlogging in the area, increasing the woes of locals in the city.
Mumbai University has postponed all the exams in the Raigad and Ratnagiri districts due to heavy rain alerts issued by the India Meteorological Department on Friday.
Mumbai City and its suburbs are expected to receive moderate to heavy rainfall on Friday, with the possibility of very heavy rainfall at isolated places, as per the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC).
Amid the heavy rains received by many parts of Maharashtra, Pimpri-Chinchwad Municipal Commissioner Shekhar Singh said that people have been evacuated from low-lying areas and shifted to safer places. He said the entire team has been deployed to keep the situation under control.
Owing to the heavy rains in many parts of Maharashtra, Mumbai International Airport Limited suspended runway operations, diverted 10 flights and cancelled the arrival and departure of several flights.
The Indian Meteorological Department has issued a warning of very heavy rainfall in isolated places on Thursday in areas of Raigad and Ratnagiri till Friday morning.
Moradabad's Bholenath colony has been facing severe waterlogging conditions due to the excessive rains on Thursday.
Residents of the colony have been using boats to navigate through the waterlogged streets.
Visuals show the officials of the Pune Fire Brigade conducting rescue and relief work in the city that has been submerged in above knee-level rainwater after being pounded by heavy showers.
"Heavy rains in Mumbai are affecting flight operations and resulting in the cancellation and diversion of some of our flights. Air India is offering full refunds or a one-time complimentary rescheduling for bookings confirmed for travel on July 25, 2024," posted the airline on X.
Ajit Pawar instructed the authorities to provide all the necessary assistance to the affected people, especially in Khadagwasla and Pimpri Chinchwad, etc., which are worst affected after heavy rains.
