The SDRF statement said that on May 26, it received information from District Control Room, Rudraprayag that a pilgrim was stranded near Meru Sumeru mountain, 3 to 4 km ahead of Shri Kedarnath towards Bhairav Temple, due to bad weather and heavy snowfall, and that an SDRF team was required
According to an official release, the mood of the weather has changed in Kedarnath. After 02:00 PM in the afternoon, the snowfall process started in Kedarnath and in the evening there was heavy snowfall. During this, the devotees kept on queuing up for darshan with the help of umbrellas."
Heavy snowfall was witnessed in parts of Kashmir on Monday including Pahalgam's Betaab Valley, Anantnag and Machil area of Kishtwar district in Jammu & Kashmir
"In the state, an alert has been issued for hailstorms and thunderstorms with a speed of 70 km per hour and heavy snowfall in areas above 3500 meters," read the IMD release.
Owing to the problems caused due to snowfall in Kedarnath and Badrinath and the rains in the low-lying areas, the late-night Chardham Yatris are being stopped by Srinagar Police in Srinagar itself.
However, the Uttarakhand government has stopped accepting registration applications from pilgrims for the Kedarnath Dham Yatra in view of heavy snowfall on the pilgrimage route and a warning of inclement weather by the Met department.
