The National Investigation Agency (NIA) on Tuesday arrested 17th person in the gold smuggling case connected with the seizure of gold bars worth over Rs 9 crore at the Jaipur International Airport in 2020.
The seizure was made on July 9 during a Long Range Patrolling operation launched in the Southern Sub Sector, covering areas such as Chismule, Narbula top, Zakle, and Zakla. The ITBP team was deployed to check infiltration and smuggling attempts along the border.
The Airport Commissionerate of Mumbai Customs found the gold concealed in various forms, like gold dust in wax, crude jewelry and gold bars in an ingenious way inside and on the body of pax and in the baggage.
Customs officials seized 1997.96 grams of smuggled gold (12 bars and 5 coins) worth Rs 1.28 crore from one person at Guwahati Railway Station, said customs officials on Monday.
According to officials, "Delhi Customs Preventive, New Customs House, seized 27 gold bars weighing more than 3 kg worth Rs 1.96 crore from two foreign nationals at the Indira Gandhi International Airport on Thursday."
The Central Industrial Security Force (CISF) recovered gold weighing approximately 1.864 kg and valued at Rs 1 crore, concealed in the loader's bag from Mumbai airport, the CISF said on Friday.
"On the basis of profiling, Delhi Customs at IGI Airport have seized gold bars weighing 5,198 gms valued at 2.81 crore brought by two Indian nationals from Bangkok. All two passengers were arrested under the Customs Act of 1962," said the customs officials.
"Based on concrete information, the troops caught a smuggler with 50 gold biscuits and 16 gold bars. The weight of the seized gold is 23 kg and its estimated value is Rs 14 crore. The smuggler was trying to bring this gold from Bangladesh to India," read an official press release.
The National Investigation Agency (NIA) on Thursday arrested a most wanted accused in the case relating to the seizure of 18.56 kg of gold bars at the Jaipur International Airport.
Officers of Customs Preventive, Ramanathapuram seized four gold bars weighing 2.5 kg valued at Rs. 1.45 crore, smuggled from Sri Lanka using a fishing boat in the south sea of Nochiurani on Wednesday.
A passenger, who arrived from Riyadh has been arrested at Hyderabad airport on Sunday for carrying 14 gold bars valued at more than Rs 67 lakh, Hyderabad Customs said.
