In a significant operation against gold smuggling, the Directorate of Revenue Intelligence (DRI) has successfully intercepted a passenger carrying foreign-origin gold bars valued at Rs 12.56 crore at Kempegowda International Airport, Bengaluru, a press release said.
As per DRI officials, after a thorough search, 7 one-kilo foreign-marked gold bars and one cut piece of a foreign-marked gold bar were recovered from the waist bags concealed under the clothes of two of the passengers.
"A male passenger (Indian) arriving from Riyadh was intercepted at Delhi airport by Customs officials on December 15. X-ray scans revealed two gold bars of 300 g worth Rs 22.2L cleverly concealed inside an adaptor," said Customs.
