Over three dozen people have lost their lives, and more than two lakh have been affected across the northeastern states due to flash floods, heavy rains, and landslides caused by Cyclone Remal over the past four days.
Heavy rainfall has caused flooding in several parts of Manipur, including Imphal. This occurred after Cyclone Remal triggered continuous rainfall in the state.
Congress President Mallikarjun Kharge took a dig at Prime Minister Narendra Modi over the "grim" flood situation in Assam, Manipur, Tripura, Mizoram, and Sikkim on Friday.
Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma thanked Union Home Minister Amit Shah for assuring complete support of the Centre in these trying times as the state witnesses natural disasters triggered by Cyclone Remal.
Chief Fire Officer (CFO), Subhash Singh shared details on the fire incident and said, "We received information about the fire. We immediately reached the spot with a fire engine. The fire was on the top floor of the three-storey building. The fire has been completely extinguished."
"Inspected the situation on the ground at Ima Market and nearby areas along with my cabinet colleagues and MLAs," Singh said in a post on 'X' in the early hours of Friday.
The flood situation in Assam on Thursday has deteriorated, as nearly 2 lakh people, including 36,000 children from 9 districts of the state have been affected in the deluge.
Security forces deployed for internal security have swiftly responded by providing immediate relief and support to affected citizens. Till date, the forces have successfully rescued over 4000 individuals from affected areas in Manipur, including over 1500 women and 800 children.
Manipur Chief Minister N Biren Singh on Thursday chaired a meeting with Ministers, MLAs, the Chief Secretary, security officials and all department officials to review the flood situation in the state.
