The Delhi Police has registered five separate FIRs against the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) and its leaders for alleged inflammatory social media posts and discriminatory statements. The complaints range from defamation and misinformation to violating electoral ethics and communal harmony.
On January 9, the Election Commission of India asked the Chief Electoral Officer of Delhi to inquire about the complaint of the Aam Aadmi Party against Parvesh Verma and take "immediate appropriate action" in accordance with the Model Code of Conduct.

As Delhi gears up for its upcoming Assembly elections, the political rhetoric between the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) and the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) has intensified, with both parties engaging in sharp exchanges.
Sitting MLA from Babarpur Assembly seat, Gopal Rai is in the electoral fray against Congress' candidate Haji Mohammad Ishraq Khan. The BJP is yet to announce its candidate for the seat.
"The BJP has already accepted its defeat and they do not contest elections, they only do dishonesty. In these elections, our AAP workers have caught each and every dishonesty of theirs," Kejriwal said.
AAP MP Sanjay Singh launched a scathing attack on the BJP during a press conference on Saturday, accusing Union Ministers, BJP MPs, and other leaders of undermining the Election Commission's reputation by engaging in electoral fraud, including registering false votes.
AAP had complained against Verma, the BJP candidate from the New Delhi constituency, for allegedly violating the Model Code of Conduct. AAP had also alleged additions and deletions in the electoral roll of the New Delhi Assembly Constituency.
