New Delhi [India], January 11 (ANI): Gopal Rai, Delhi Minister and two-time MLA from Babarpur, on Saturday claimed that the transformative development has been undertaken in the Assembly constituency over the past decade under the Aam Aadmi Party's (AAP) government.
Speaking to ANI, Rai, who is again contesting from the seat, highlighted key initiatives, including the construction of over 90 roads, the installation of new pipelines, the operationalization of 16 Mohalla Clinics, and the modernisation of schools.
"The Aam Aadmi Party government in Delhi did a lot of development work for the people. Babarpur assembly constituency, where people gave me the opportunity to become MLA twice, was considered the most backward assembly in terms of work, when I became MLA, we tried to provide basic facilities to the people. Over the past ten years, we have worked to ensure that basic facilities are provided to the public. Every year, when the budget is presented, I visit local neighbourhoods and ask people about what needs to be done," he said.
"Today, in the Babarpur Assembly constituency, I have constructed more than 90 roads and lanes. New pipelines have been installed, and around 90 per cent of the population now has sewer connections. We have installed CCTV cameras everywhere, and 16 Mohalla Clinics are operational in the Babarpur Assembly constituency. Old schools have been modernized, and efforts are underway to build new schools," Gopal Rai added.
He also highlighted that they have built a mini stadium in the Yamuna Paar region.
"Now, children here no longer need to go elsewhere. Our efforts have aimed to remove the stigma of being one of the most backward constituencies," the AAP leader said.
Congress has fielded Haji Mohammad Ishraq Khan against Rai from the Babarpur Assembly seat while the BJP is yet to announce its candidate.
The Delhi assembly polls will be held in a single phase on February 5 and the counting of votes will take place on February 8.
The last date for filing nominations is January 17. The date for scrutiny of nominations is January 18. The last date for withdrawal of candidature is January 20.
A three-way contest is on the cards in Delhi between the ruling AAP, BJP and Congress.
Congress, which was in power for 15 consecutive years in Delhi, has suffered setbacks in the last two assembly elections and has failed to win any seat. AAP dominated the 2020 assembly elections by winning 62 out of 70 seats while the BJP got eight seats. (ANI)
