External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar visited the Pamplemousses Botanical Garden in Mauritius, where he paid homage at the memorials of the Father of the Mauritian Nation, Seewoosagur Ramgoolam and the architect of the 'Mauritian Miracle', Aneerood Jugnauth.
He thanked Mauritius Foreign Minister Maneesh Gobin for warm welcome and stated that he looked forward to productive engagements to take forward the special relationship between the two nations.
"In India, we have a historical relationship with the people of Afghanistan. And this people-to-people connection is actually a foundation for our ties," Jaishankar said.
This comes around a month after PM Jugnauth visited India for the swearing-in ceremony of Prime Minister Narendra Modi along with his new cabinet and Council of Ministers
External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar and his Thailand counterpart Maris Sangiampongsa reiterated their commitment to closer cooperation in sub-regional, regional, and multilateral fora.
Apart from ways to strengthen regional cooperation, the talks also featured improving connectivity, energy, trade, health, agriculture, science, security and people-to-people exchanges.
Jaishankar on Thursday welcomed colleagues from across the world for the second Bay of Bengal Initiative for Multi-Sectoral Technical and Economic Cooperation (BIMSTEC) Foreign Ministers' Retreat.
