Following an on-the-spot inquiry into the violent incidents that occurred in West Karbi Anglong district, a delegation of opposition political parties in Assam will meet the Governor on Wednesday, December 31, and submit a memorandum.
Addressing a press conference today, Saikia stated that, despite Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma's public claims, the government has taken no substantive steps to grant ST status to the six communities.
Saikia's statement comes a day after Prime Minister Narendra Modi visited Guwahati to inaugurate the new terminal building at the Lokapriya Gopinath Bardoloi International Airport here, where he claimed that he is fixing "decades old mistakes" of the Congress party.
"Today, I am not saying Zubeen Garg's death is an accident, it is a murder. We will have to submit the chargesheet of Zubeen Garg murder case before December 17. I have given the target to submit the chargesheet by December 8. We are ready," he said.
Speaking to ANI, Saikia said, "Assam CM Himanta Biswa Sarma is giving irresponsible statements and not taking adequate action against anti-India activities; he should be held accountable."

Leader of Opposition in Assam Assembly Debabrata Saikia wrote a letter to Singapore Prime Minister Lawrence Wong, urging a transparent and thorough investigation into the death of singer Zubeen Garg. Saikia requested a coroner's inquiry into the death of Garg.
Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma slammed the Congress and Raijor Dal chief Akhil Gogoi for demanding the transfer of the probe into renowned singer Zubeen Garg's death from the Assam Police's Special Investigation Team (SIT) to the Central Bureau of Investigation.
