Eleven express trains from Chennai Central were cancelled on Monday after the water level reached the danger mark at Bridge No. 14 between Vyasarpadi and Basin Bridge owing to heavy downpours.
According to district administration officials, the water level of the Narmada River near the Golden Bridge in Gujarat's Bharuch district reached 37 feet at Golden Bridge as of 7:30 pm on Sunday.
While the danger level starts from 92,730, the current water level of the Sarayu river in Ayodhya stands at 92.880, 15 centimetres above the danger mark, as of Friday morning at 8 AM, the CWC officer said.
"There was heavy rain in the area late at night yesterday, after which the water level of the Pranmati river started flowing above the danger mark. Due to this the Pindar river also came in spate," Chamoli District Magistrate Himanshu Khurana said.
