The Gadag Police of Karnataka have taken two persons into custody for allegedly raping and blackmailing a 15-year-old girl. The accused have been booked under Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act, said police.
Special judge Kaveri Baweja extended the judicial custody of Naresh Balyan, Rohit alias Anna, and Sachin Chikara. Sahil alias Pole and Vijay Gehlot alias Kalu were also remanded to judicial custody until February 24.
Naresh Balyan's counsel, Advocate MS Khan, argued that Balyan's wife, who is contesting elections for the first time, urgently needed his support. He highlighted the difficulties Balyan faced in communicating with her, stating that he was unable to even make a simple phone call from custody.
Lokayukta police arrested them on Tuesday and produced before the court of District and Additional Sessions Judge (I) Ram Pratap Mishra. Lokayukta sought seven days remand for interrogation. Following which, Judge Mishra granted the custody to Lokayukta police for seven days till February 4.
