The Assam Cabinet on Thursday complimented Assam police for its campaign against child marriage, and further directed it to continue with the clampdown.
Maulana Mahmood Madani, president of Jamiat Ulema-e-Hind while talking to ANI said that the action being taken against parents of children in Assam should not happen. If something is being done against a particular community, then people will raise their voices, he said on Wednesday.
Many more cases of child marriage have come to light in Assam after the police arrested 2,442 people as a part of the state government's massive crackdown against the ill practice.
The total number of people arrested in connection with child marriages escalated to 2,441, informed Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma on Monday.
Making a connection with the people enroute to Hamirpur in the local dialect, Chief Minister Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu, expressed his gratitude to the people of the region for supporting him unconditionally in his entire political journey.
"No more cracks have been found on houses and water discharge in the area has also dropped from 560 LPM to 50 LPM. 70 per cent of the rehabilitation has been done and the situation of the area is stable," CM Dhami said.
