Assam Chief Minister Dr Himanta Biswa Sarma on Friday informed that the crackdown against child marriages in the state would continue for the next two to three days.
While talking to the media, the Assam Chief Minister said, "Assam Police has arrested 1,800 persons in connection with child marriage-related cases across the state so far."
In a crackdown against people involved in child marriages in the state, Assam Police on Friday said that as many as 1,793 people have been apprehended so far across the state.
Following the directives of Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma, Assam Police has launched a massive crackdown against child marriage and apprehended many people.
Noting Pakistan's previous attempts to pass legislation prohibiting forced conversions and protecting religious minorities, the UN experts deplored the lack of access to justice for victims and their families.
"We urge the Pakistan Government to take immediate steps to prevent and thoroughly investigate these acts objectively and in line with domestic legislation and international human rights commitments. Perpetrators must be held fully accountable," the experts said over the spike in the number
