Hemana Biswa Sarma, Chief Minister of Assam, posted on X, “In a massive crackdown against child marriage, Assam Police has arrested over 800 accused persons in a special operation which began in the early hours of dawn. The number of arrests is likely to rise.”
"The arrested persons are fake Kazis, and they illegally conducted marriages, including minors. In one register, we found that one of the arrested persons had illegally conducted 150-200 marriages in the district. They also conducted child marriages. Our investigation is on," Samir Baruah
