Fasting Nepali Hindu women on Sunday took a dip at Kamal Pokhari- a local pond in Kathmandu with baskets full of offering to the Sun God on the third day of the Chhath festival.
In Bihar, the festival dedicated to Sun and Chhathi Maiya is celebrated with rigorous and strict manners of preparation. A striking difference that one might notice as a non-Bihari is that Chhath is probably the only major Hindu festival that doesn't involve priests or purohits.
This is the first time that on the Chief Minister's call, along with maintaining safety standards, the appeal of ensuring cleanliness on Chhath festival has been taken up by internet users.
In Uttar Pradesh's Gorakhpur and Varanasi, a large number of women clad in sarees were seen standing knee-deep in water at ghats, worshipping the Sun God.
The CM said that the campaign for the cleanliness of rivers has been taken forward unitedly. Resultantly, the Gomti river is in a cleaner form today. Chhath promotes unity, social harmony and prosperity of the society as a whole.
"As pollution rises, CM Arvind Kejriwal should have stayed in Delhi to prepare for Chhath Puja. Instead, he is touring Gujarat as he does not want to facilitate devotees here," said Manoj Tiwari.
Extending Chhath Puja greetings in his monthly radio broadcast Mann Ki Baat, Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Sunday said Chhath Puja is a great example of 'Ek Bharat, Shreshtha Bharat'.
