The premier weather forecasting agency, IMD (India Meteorological Department), held out no immediate respite from the searing and scalding heatwave and has issued a red wave alert for Delhi, Haryana, Punjab and Chandigarh, stating that the heatwave will continue for a few days.
Taking to its social media handle, the IMD posted, "Today, heat wave to severe heat wave conditions were observed in some parts of Rajasthan, Uttar Pradesh and Gujarat. Heat wave conditions in many parts of Punjab, Haryana, Chandigarh, and Delhi; in isolated pockets of Madhya Pradesh."

Amid the soaring temperature and heatwaves across the nation, including Rajasthan, the Director of the Regional Meteorological Centre in Jaipur, Radhe Shyam Sharma on Friday said that Western Rajasthan is experiencing a severe heatwave, with temperatures exceeding 45 degrees Celsius.
The Regional Meteorological Centre in Jaipur has issued a yellow alert and heatwave warnings in Rajasthan as temperatures in various districts have crossed the mark of 44 degrees Celsius.
In the last 24 hours, about 10 places in North interior Tamil Nadu recorded more than 42 degrees Celsius with Karur recording the highest temperature at 44.3 degrees which is about 7 degrees above normal, said IMD.
Many districts in the state recorded more than 40 degrees Celsius: Cuddalore (40.2 degrees Celsius), Madurai (41.4 degrees Celsius), Namakkal (41.0 degrees Celsius), Dharmapuri (41.5 degrees Celsius) Vellore (43.7 degrees Celsius).
The Director of the India Meteorological Department (IMD) in Bhubaneswar, Manorama Mohanty said, "In Odisha, 30 cities reported 41 degrees Celsius and above and 29 cities recorded 42 degrees Celsius and above. Baripada in Mayurbanj district reported 46.4 degrees Celsius. Balasore reported
