Chief of Air Staff Air Chief Marshal VR Chaudhari on Wednesday received the first C-295 transport aircraft made for India by global aircraft manufacturer Airbus at a facility in Seville in Spain.
The aircraft is the first of 16 C-295 that will be produced in Spain and the remaining 40 will be made in an Indian facility in Vadodara by the joint venture of Tata and Airbus.
Air Chief Marshal VR Chaudhari— the chief of the Indian Air Force, would be in Spain this week where he would receive the first C-295 transport plane made for India by global aircraft manufacturer Airbus for India at a facility in Seville.
The statement from the civil aviation ministry said that a final assembly line and maintenance, repair and overhaul (MRO) facility would be set up for manufacturing C-295 military transport aircraft by TASL in collaboration with Airbus Defence and Space.
On this occasion, Modi said that this is our government's clear vision to make India Aatmnirbhar, especially in Defence Sector. "For this, we have taken many steps. The aircraft manufacturing facility in Vadodara is India's giant leap towards becoming self-reliant in the aviation sector."
Christian Scherer, Airbus Chief Commercial Officer (CCO) on Sunday highligted India's huge business potential on the sidelines of the foundation stone laying ceremony of the C-295 transport aircraft manufacturing facility in Gujarat's Vadodara.
Apart from making 40 aircraft, this facility at Vadodara would be manufacturing additional aircraft for Air Force requirements and exports, as per Defence Secretary Aramane Giridhar.
