Karnataka Chief Minister Basavraj Bommai on Tuesday met Union Defence Minister Rajnath Singh in Delhi and requested the latter to hand over 732.24 acres of land, under defence control, to Karnataka.
"The border dispute between Maharashtra and Karnataka is coming up for hearing on November 30 and senior advocate Mukul Rohtagi will effectively present the case on behalf of Karnataka," CM Bommai said.
In another major turn to the border row, Karnataka Chief Minister Basavraj Bommai on Sunday said that the state is all set for a legal battle with Maharashtra over the border dispute.
According to sources, the Karnataka Home Secretary Rajneesh Goyal called his Maharashtra counterpart to ensure the protection of all Kannadigas in Maharashtra.
"The Karnataka Chief Minister is giving his statement on border issues. It seems like Karnataka CM Bommai has been possessed for suddenly staking a claim on 40 villages in Maharashtra?" Uddhav Thackeray said.
This comes after Bommai indulged in a war of words with Fadnavis over the border issue of the two states and called the remarks of the Maharashtra Deputy Chief Minister "provocative".
Karnataka CM Bommai had earlier said that the border row has become a political tool in Maharashtra, and any party in power will raise the issue for political purposes. My government is capable to protect the borders of Karnataka and has taken steps also, Bommai had said.
In a letter to Karnataka CM Basavaraj Bommai, Karnataka state president of AAP Prithvi Reddy demanded an all-party meeting in Karnataka to resolve the issue and requested him to allow a representative of AAP attend the meeting.
