Even as Manipur Chief Minister N Biren Singh on Friday scotched rumours of his resignation in light of the persisting civil unrest in the state, the Congress's Bihar chief Akhilesh Prasad Singh demanded that he step down or be removed by the BJP if he fails to do so.
A large number of supporters, including women gathered outside the residence of the Manipur Chief Minister to express their support for him amid speculation that he could resign.

According to the police, the situation in the northeastern state is tense in some places but it is improving in most places with almost no untoward incident during the last 24 hours.
"The Manipur government has completely failed to stop violence. This is visible from Chief Minister N. Biren Singh," Vice President of North East India Christian Council, Reverend SR Dakhar said.
