Bangladesh's Chief Adviser Muhammad Yunus has praised the cessation of hostilities between India and Pakistan, commending the leadership of both nations and the US mediation that facilitated the agreement.
Bangladesh has officially become the 54th country to sign the Artemis Accords, a set of principles guiding responsible space exploration, at a ceremony held during the 2025 Investor Summit in Dhaka on April 8.
US Deputy National Security Advisor Alex N Wong held a telephone conversation Wednesday evening with the Bangladesh Chief Adviser's High Representative Dr Khalilur Rahman, Chief Adviser's Press Wing said in a statement.
"The allegation that USAID awarded the 29 million USD project to a company owned by two individuals in Bangladesh is not true", Bangladesh Foreign Ministry said in a statement.
USAID had avoided normal government official channel to finance USD 29 million to implement a controversial project to strengthen political landscape in Bangladesh, a senior government NGO Affairs official said.
Protests and sloganeering took place against Bangladesh Chief Advisor Muhammad Yunus outside the Blair House where Prime Minister Narendra Modi is staying during his two-day visit to the US.
The situation in Bangladesh has raised significant concerns, with the American State Department Hindustani Spokesperson Margaret MacLeod expressing worries about the country's democracy and human rights record.
The US State Department stressed the importance of freedom of expression in a democracy even by dissenting voices, adding that upholding and protecting these freedoms is necessary to ensure a "true democratic future" for Bangladesh.
"Structurally, our relationship with our neighbours would be much stronger than it has been since independence. And the reason was very simple. If you look today at how much more regionalized we have become," Jaishankar said.
Describing China as a 'unique problem', External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar said that India is not the only country in the world that is having a debate about that country.
