Communist Party of India-Marxist leader Brinda Karat on Thursday, condemned the encounter of gangster-turned-politician Atiq Ahmed's son Asad and another accused Ghulam, wanted in the Umesh Pal murder case and called 'encounter politics' as a violation of the country's legal system.
Gangster-turned-politician Atiq Ahmed said in a statement to Uttar Pradesh Police that he has direct connections with "Pakistan's Inter-Services Intelligence (ISI) and terror outfit Lashkar-e-Taiba".

With the killing of Atiq Ahmed's son Asad and his aide Ghulam, wanted in the Umesh Pal murder case, in an encounter with UP Special Task Force in Jhansi on Thursday, a plan was foiled to help the jailed gangster to escape, Uttar Pradesh Police said.
The Special Task Force (STF) of Uttar Pradesh Police on Thursday termed the encounter of gangster-turned-politician Atiq Ahmed's son Asad and another accused Ghulam, wanted in the Umesh Pal murder case, as a "huge success".
Asad along with his associate Ghulam, both of whom were wanted in the Umesh Pal murder case, were shot dead in an encounter with Uttar Pradesh Special Task Force in Jhansi today.
"It is a message to criminals that this is the new India. It is Yogi govt in UP, not Samajwadi Party in power which gave protection to criminals," Maurya said.
A police van carrying convicted gangster Atiq Ahmed and his brother Ashraf on Thursday arrived at Chief Judicial Magistrate (CJM) Court in Prayagraj in connection to the Umesh Pal murder case.
