Congress President Mallikarjun Kharge on Thursday approved the candidature of Yasir Ahmed Khan Pathan as the Congress candidate from the Shiggaon Constituency for the upcoming Legislative Assembly bypolls in Karnataka.
The Congress party announced on Thursday that it has decided to not field candidates in the nine Assembly seats in Uttar Pradesh where bypolls are being held, said Congress in-charge Avinash Pandey on Thursday.
The total number of candidates who have filed nominations in UP has now reached 13. Nominations will continue to be accepted for the by-elections of the 9 assembly seats in UP until October 25.

Earlier on Tuesday, ECI announced bypolls to 48 assembly constituencies including nine seats in Uttar Pradesh and the Wayanad Lok Sabha seat in Kerala on November 13. The counting will be held on November 23.
