New Delhi [India], October 24 (ANI): Congress President Mallikarjun Kharge on Thursday approved the candidature of Yasir Ahmed Khan Pathan as the Congress candidate from the Shiggaon Constituency for the upcoming Legislative Assembly bypolls in Karnataka.
According to a press release by the All India Congress Committee, "The Congress President, Mallikarjun Kharge, has approved the candidature of Yasir Ahmed Khan Pathan as the Congress candidate for the ensuing bye-election to the Legislative Assembly of Karnataka from 83-Shiggaon Constituency."
Earlier today, Bharat Bommai, son of former Karnataka Chief Minister and BJP Lok Sabha MP Basavaraj Bommai, filed his nomination as the party's candidate for the Shiggaon Assembly bypoll.
The Congress has already announced candidates for the other two seats in the Karnataka bypolls. The party named CP Yogeshwara, who joined the Congress on Wednesday after resigning as the BJP MLC on Monday, as their candidate for Channapatna, and Bellary MP E Tukaram's wife, E Annapurna, for Sandur.
Meanwhile, the NDA on Thursday fielded JD(S) State Youth Unit President and son of Union Minister and Karnataka JD(S) chief HD Kumaraswamy, Nikhil Kumaraswamy, for the upcoming Channapatna by-poll.
The bypolls in these three seats are taking place following the resignation of HD Kumaraswamy from Channapatna, Basavaraj Bommai from Shiggaon, and Tukaram from Sandur after they won in the Lok Sabha polls in 2024.
The byelections in Karnataka are set to take place on November 13, along with 47 assembly constituencies and the Wayanad parliamentary seat in Kerala, as per the Election Commission of India (ECI).
The counting of votes will take place on November 23. (ANI)
