Assam Police spokesperson Prasanta Kumar Bhuyan on Saturday said that so far 2,170 people involved in child marriage cases have been arrested in the state.
Assam police have arrested 139 people in Biswanath district as part of its state-wide crackdown on child marriages after CM Himanta Biswa Sarma directed to end the 'menace'.
Assam Director-General of Police (DGP) GP Singh said that in the last two days, police have registered over 4000 cases across different districts of the State.
While talking to the media, the Assam Chief Minister said, "Assam Police has arrested 1,800 persons in connection with child marriage-related cases across the state so far."
