The Assam Cabinet on Thursday complimented Assam police for its campaign against child marriage, and further directed it to continue with the clampdown.
Police arrested three persons including the prime accused in connection with the torture of a youth in Assam's Hailakandi district which was captured in a video that went viral on social media.
Many more cases of child marriage have come to light in Assam after the police arrested 2,442 people as a part of the state government's massive crackdown against the ill practice.
"We recovered 929 cartoons of illegal liquor from the truck which were kept hidden in cement blocks. Recovered 24,516 bottles of illegal liquor," Biswanath Superintendent of Police Navin Singh said.
The total number of people arrested in connection with child marriages escalated to 2,441, informed Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma on Monday.
"Based on the information given by Army intelligence and CRPF intelligence, a search operation was conducted by police and CRPF in a jungle area near Sengnoi village under Nalbari police station on Saturday," an official said.
