As the massive crackdown by Punjab police against the elements of Waris Punjab De, including its chief and Khalistan sympathiser, fugitive Amritpal Singh, continued on Monday, locals across the State, spent another day under a security blanket without Internet services.
"We have a very strong suspicion of an ISI angle, based on the facts and circumstances that have come to light so far. We also have a very strong suspicion of foreign funding. Going by the circumstances, it seems that ISI is involved and there is foreign funding as well," Punjab IGP said
The statement by the Punjab government stated that certain sections in the society are likely to threaten public order, and they widely use social media platforms for mobilising their "anti-national activities."
SSP Jalandhar Swarndeep Singh confirmed saying, "Waris Punjab De chief Amritpal Singh's uncle and driver surrendered before the Punjab police last night".
Fugitive pro-Khalistan leader Amritpal Singh has been arrested by the Punjab Police at Shahkot police station, Imaan Singh Khara, the legal advisor to Waris Punjab De claimed on Sunday.
As the crackdown, against the "fugitive" pro-Khalistan leader Amritpal Singh, continued on Sunday, Punjab Police has said that the Waris Punjab De chief is still on the run and efforts to nab him are still going on.
The propaganda meeting in Australia's Brisbane by Khalistan sympathisers on Sunday, which they called a referendum, has failed and did not manage to gather steam, as just a handful of people turned up.
"A total of 15 persons have been detained from Boparai Kalan village for violating Section 144. All the people attempted to stage a protest in support of Amritpal Singh," Inspector General (IG), Ludhiana Range, Kastubh Sharma said.
