Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma on Saturday praised Union Home Minister Amit Shah after he inaugurated the Lachit Barphukan Police Academy at Dergaon in Assam's Golaghat district.
Addressing the gathering, Shah said that this move is not just an administrative decision but a symbol of the government's responsibility towards the Mizo people. Due to the state's unique topography, the Mizo people have been demanding relocation for over 35 years.
Recalling his detention during Hiteshwar Saikia's tenure as Assam Chief Minister, Union Home Minister Amit Shah on Saturday said that during the Congress government in Assam, he was beaten up and had jail's food for seven days in the state.

The BJP in Haryana has swept the elections to local bodies, with its candidates winning mayoral posts in nine places, including Rohtak, Sonipat, Gurugram, Faridabad, Panipat, Yamunanagar, Ambala, Hisar and Karnal. The voting took place on March 2.
Haryana Minister Anil Vij on Wednesday said that Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has won 25 seats out of 32 in the municipal elections. The ruling party also managed to win the mayoral post from Ambala, along with eight other places in the state.
