Maharashtra Samajwadi Party President Abu Asim Azmi on Tuesday said that the All India Muslim Personal Law Board (AIMPLB) is leading the protest against the amended Waqf law and urged demonstrators to ensure that protests remain peaceful and purposeful.

Speaking to the reporters after appearing before the Police, SP MLA Abu Asim Azmi said, "There is no need to record a statement; there is no case. An FIR had been registered against me. I took anticipatory bail. I got the bail, and I need to come and put my signature for three days."
Mumbai's session court on Tuesday granted anticipatory bail to Abu Azmi on a solvent surety bond of Rs 20,000 in connection with his alleged controversial statement about Aurangzeb made in the Maharashtra legislative assembly.
"The media tried to malign me by misrepresenting my statement, so I humbly request that my suspension be withdrawn as I am not at fault in this matter," he said.
"Strict action should be taken against those who give wrong statements about Shahaji Chhatrapati Maharaj, Rajmata Jijau, Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj and Chhatrapati Sambhaji Maharaj. Whether it is the ruling party or the opposition, the state government and the central government should pass
