Women in Nepal celebrate Hartalika Teej with fervour

Birgunj (Nepal)/ Kathmandu (Nepal), Sep 02 (ANI): Women across Nepal are celebrating Hartalika Teej in Nepal, which holds religious and social significance for them. Teej is a two-day festival. On the first day, women eat food without garlic and onion. On the second day, women observe a 24-hour fast without water and food and worship Lord Shiva and Goddess Parvati. They break their fast on the next day. The devotees spend their day by singing, dancing and merrymaking in temple premises and public places. The women danced together to the foot-tapping music of Nepal. "Teej" refers to the "third" day that falls every month after the new moon (Amavasya), and the third day after the full moon night of every month. Teej in Nepal is dedicated to the Goddess Parvati, marking her union with Lord Shiva and women fast for the well-being of husband, children, and the whole family.
