Updated:8 years, 1 month ago

Shanghai (China), Sep 19 (ANI): The technological advancements in China have been making headlines for decades now. This time, a Shanghai-based temple was relocated with the help of latest technology to accommodate more pilgrims. The relocation of the main hall of Yufo Temple, along with three huge Buddhist statues inside, was completed on Sunday, after being gradually moved around 30 metres north of its original place. The structure and everything inside was moved six metres a day along specially-built rails and then lifted up by 0.3 metres every day, taking two weeks to complete. The new location, which is 30.66 metres away and 1.05 metres higher than the original, has more room for an increasing number of pilgrims, in front of the main hall. The temple, founded in 1882, was reconstructed in 1918 after being destroyed in the 1911 uprising that led to the demise of China's imperial system.
