Wagner mercenaries deployed in Rostov-on-Don; Putin labels armed mutiny as ‘treason’

Chief Prigozhin and Russian President Putin, Prigozhin has claimed that his forces had military facilities in Russia’s southern city of Rostov-on-Don under their control. Wagner mercenaries were posted in a street in Rostov-on-Don on June 24. Prigozhin demanded to meet Defence Minister Sergei Shoigu, Russia’s top general Valery Gerasimov in southern city. Rebellious Russian mercenary boss informed in a video that he is now at the headquarters of the Southern Military District A handful of mercenary fighters were seen guarding, deploying in Rostov-on-Don’s street, including a small tank, military vehicles. Meanwhile, in an emergency televised address, Russian President said that "armed mutiny" by Wagner Group mercenary force was treason. “We will protect our people, our statehood from any threats including treason from the inside,” stated Putin. Putin assured that “decisive action” would be taken to stabilise the situation in Rostov-on-Don and said “punishment will be harsh”. Russia’s anti-terrorist committee informed that it had imposed a counter-terrorist regime in Moscow.
