Islamabad, Nov 25 (ANI): Pakistani police used tear gas and watercannon against stone-throwing Islamist activists after protests broke out across Pakistan on Saturday. For more than two weeks, protestors have been blocking the main routes in the capital of Islamabad. Similar demonstrations have been observed in other major cities, including Karachi, Lahore, Rawalpindi and Peshawar. The police launched an operation, on Saturday, that involved over 4,000 officers to disperse as many as1,000 Tehreek-e-Labaik party members and break up their camp. Dozens of protesters have been arrested and several more are being treated for injuries. The protests have thrown daily life in the capital out of gear as the protestors defied court orders to disband, demanding the firing of the minister of law. Tehreek-e-Labaik blames the minister, Zahid Hamid, for changes to an electoral oath that it says amounts to blasphemy. Pakistan's government is now trying to control the situation fearing violence during a crackdown similar to 2007, which killed over 100 people.
