Dashcam footage of the collision shows Herzberg, a homeless woman, walking her bike across a dark road in Tempe, Arizona and shows how the car doesn't appear to brake even as the woman comes into view. Other footage shows the human driver behind the wheel looking down seconds before the incident. The death raises questions about the safety of autonomous vehicles on public roads, while its fallout could derail the testing of self-driving cars, which are designed to eventually perform better than human drivers and reduce road deaths. In the wake of the incident, Uber suspended testing of its self-driving car fleet across all North America.
