“Towards true freedom”: Imran Khan’s supporters on streets of Pak’s Attock attack police vehicles

Pakistan’s capital was put under a security lockdown on November 24, ahead of protests by supporters of jailed former PM Imran Khan calling for his release. Highways leading to Islamabad were blocked as supporters of Khan, led by members of his Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) party, approached the city. Moreover, mobile phone services have been suspended and large contingents of police and paramilitary personnel have been deployed in riot gear. In an attempt to counter intensifying protests, police fired tear gas at supporters of former PM Khan in Attock. Situation deteriorated after Imran Khan’s supporters asserted that they will not stop until the demands are not met. Earlier this month, massive protests in support of Imran Khan rocked Pakistan as thousands took to streets demanding his release. The former prime minister, who has been in jail since August last year, has been at odds with generals he blames for his 2022 ousting. Khan’s party backed candidates who won the most seats in February's election but fell short of a majority. Khan’s supporters have since been agitating in parliament and on the streets, alleging that elections was rigged to keep them out of power
