Toronto (Canada), (ANI), June 25, 2021: Activists from Tibet, Xinjiang and Hong Kong organizations staged a protest and marched in downtown Toronto to call for Boycotting Beijing Olympics in 2022. Numerous advocacy organizations around the world stood together in solidarity to host the Global Day of Action, calling for a boycott of the Olympics in Beijing. The protest began at Nathan's Phillips Square, followed by a march to the Canada Olympic Committee office at 250 Yonge Street.Due to the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic, the protest took place in person with adequate safety protocols enforced to ensure proper social distancing. Over 300 protesters participated in this protest despite strict Covid restrictions. The Protesters chanted Free Tibet, Free Hong Kong and Free Turkistan. Protesters said that on account of China’s extensive human rights violations and the genocides against Tibetans, Uyghurs, Southern Mongolians, Taiwanese and Hong Kongers, China does not meet the ethical standards required to host the Games. Allowing China to host the 2022 Olympics undermines the struggle to resist the Chinese government’s authoritarian policies.
