TikTok CEO grilled by US Congress; India’s ban of TikTok and data privacy issues brought up

Washington (US), Mar 24 (ANI): Bringing out Indian’s ban over the Chinese app TikTok in the country, Congresswoman Rep. Debbie Lesko at the House Commerce Committee on March 23 in US’ Washington raised questions over app’s user data security in presence of TikTok CEO Shou Zi Chew. Grilling the TikTok CEO over several countries banning the app’s installation on devices of the government employees, Lesko asked Chew to answer over the allegations as he testified during a Congressional hearing. “India banned the use of TikTok in 2020. New Zealand banned the installation of TikTok on devices connected to the Parliamentary network, Canada banned it on government devices,” Lesko said. Shou Zi Chew on the other hand however, called the allegations theoretical, hypothetical and said that they lack evidences. He further welcomed a discussion over the issue saying that he is ‘waiting to see some evidences’. Chinese app TikTok has been under a lot of heat in several countries over its user data security issues. India also banned the app in 2020 over national security concerns.
