Sydney (Australia), Mar 04 (ANI): Scores of people turn out in Sydney to take part in the Gay and Lesbian Mardi Gras parade. Thousands made their way down Oxford Street in Sydney to celebrate the 40th anniversary of the Gay and Lesbian Mardi Gras. Australia's first Mardi Gras happened 40 years ago protesting the country's discrimination of homosexuals. That march led to beatings and arrests. Decades on, the country has now changed legalizing same-sex marriage in December after a nationwide survey voted in favour of the move. The parade helped raise awareness on issues impacting the gay community. This year's march featured 200 floats and groups of street dancers.
