Sri Lanka receives 5 lakh free COVID-19 vaccines from India

Sri Lanka, Jan 28 (ANI): India provided COVID-19 vaccine to Sri Lanka and the consignment Colombo on January 28. Sri Lankan President Gotabaya Rajapaksa received the ‘Made in India’ COVID-19 vaccine. India provided 5 lakh vaccines to the island nation. The consignment of 'Made in India' coronavirus vaccine (Covishield) reached Colombo on Thursday under the ‘Vaccine Maitri’ initiative. This comes days after Sri Lanka's drugs regulatory body - National Medicines Regulatory Authority (NMRA) - gave a go-ahead to Oxford Astrazeneca's vaccine. Earlier, India supplied COVID-19 vaccines to neighbouring countries Bhutan, Maldives, Nepal, Myanmar, Sri Lanka, Afghanistan and Bangladesh under the ‘Neighbourhood First’ policy.
