South Africa court adjourns ex- president Jacob Zuma corruption case

Durban, Pietermaritzburg, Pretoria, Johannesburg (South Africa), 6 Mar (ANI): South Africa's former president Jacob Zuma defiant outside court on Friday, firmly denying multiple charges of corruption. The former South Africa's President faces charges including fraud, racketeering and money laundering related to the deal, dating back to when he was deputy president. He arrived at Durban's high court calmly and in good spirits, while outside his supporters expressed solidarity and eagerly awaited news. The court postponed the trial until June 8th. Zuma will then face accusations of corruption in a $2.5 billion arms deal in the 1990s. The defense and prosecutors for the state agreed to delay to give both sides more time for their preparation. Charges were filed against him but then dropped shortly before he successfully ran for president in 2009. Since his election, his opponents have fought a lengthy legal battle to have them reinstated. Prosecutors re-filed the charges after Jacob Zuma was forced from power by his own party in February. The case marks a dramatic development on a continent where leaders rarely face their accusers in court.
