RJP-N mulling over joining the left coalition in government formation

Kathmandu (Nepal), Jan 09 (ANI): Terai based Rashtriya Janata Party-Nepal (RJP-N), which has been seeking a better representation for the Madhesi people through a constitutional amendment, ever since the constitution was promulgated in 2015, is now considering to be a part of the coalition of CPN (UML) and CPN (MC), which is set to form the government once the members of the upper house are elected. Madhesi leader Anil Kumar Jha asserting at his party’s objective of getting rights for Madhesi people said he was open to all political equations which could prove beneficial to the people of the Terai. The RJP-N has 17 seats in the House of Representatives, the lower house of the Nepal Parliament, while the coalition of CPN-UML and Maoist Centre has 174 seats with CPN- UML having 121 seats and Maoist Centre having 53 seats under its belt. Earlier, the Government formation was held up by differences between CPN-UML and Nepali Congress over election of the upper house based on ‘single transferable vote’. However, Deuba, after consulting the Election commission has come up with the election date of National Assembly members. The 59 member upper house will now be elected on 8th February which thereafter will pave way for the formation of new government.
