Remains of world's longest reigning monarch collected after cremation

Bangkok (Thailand), Oct 27 (ANI): The cremated remains of world's longest reigning monarch, King Bhumibol Adulyadej, were collected as part of an elaborate, five day funeral at historic old quarter in Bangkok on Friday. Sea of mourners came to old quarter to witness and pay their last tribute to King Adulyadej. Son of late king Bhumibol Adulyadej’s son led a religious ceremony to collect his father's remains and sprinkled them with sacred water as part of the ritual. King Bhumibol Adulyadej’s remains were blessed by Thailand's Supreme Patriarch, the head of the order of Buddhist monks. The late king's bones will be taken to the Grand Palace, where he had laid in state since his death last October. To witness the funeral procession of their beloved king, more than three-lakh mourners flocked to old quarter from across the country. The mourners slept overnight on thin plastic sheets near the Grand Palace in order to secure a good spot to view the procession. King Bhumibol Adulyadej ruled Thailand for seventy years. He died peacefully, aged 89, on October 13, 2016, at Siriraj Hospital in Bangkok. The Thai king is highly beloved by his subjects and considered to be of divine origins.
