Prince Edward explores Nepal’s Bhaktapur, tries traditional Woodcarving

Bhaktapur (Nepal), Feb 05 (ANI): On the second day visit to Nepal, the Duke of Edinburgh, Prince Edward, explored the historic city of Bhaktapur on Wednesday. Earlier in the day, the Duchess of Edinburgh also toured the culturally rich Bhaktapur Durbar Square, a UNESCO World Heritage Site. The royal couple visited key landmarks, including Bhaktapur Durbar Square, Ta:mari Square, Dattatreya Temple, and Namuna Ghar. Prince Edward immersed himself in the city's artistic heritage, walking through its narrow alleyways for over an hour while admiring the intricate architecture. During his visit to Namuna Ghar, located within the Navadurga complex, Prince Edward briefly tried his hand at woodcarving, using a hammer and chisel to carve patterns into wood. He was guided by heritage conservationist and architect Rabindra Puri, who led the royal tour.The Duke also visited the Nepal Vocational Academy in Kamalbinayak, where young artisans were engaged in woodcarving. Prince Edward arrived in Kathmandu on Tuesday for a private visit and is scheduled to return to the UK on February 9. As part of his engagements, he also met with President Ramchandra Paudel at Sheetal Niwas to discuss matters of mutual interest.
