PM Modi, Zelenskyy's talks at G7 were the top highlights of today's newspapers in Japan

Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Ukrainian President Zelenskyy’s meeting at the G7 Summit hogged the limelight. PM Modi’s and Ukrainian President Zelenskyy’s bilateral meet made it to the front page of local newspapers in Japan. Notably, PM Modi held bilateral meeting with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy on May 20 on the sidelines of the G7 summit. The meet garnered headlines as both leaders held a bilateral discussion for the first time since Russia launched military operations in Ukraine. During bilateral talks, PM Modi showed concern over Ukraine crisis and assured him, “I’ll do whatever I can”. Further highlighting the crisis PM Modi said that for him Ukraine crisis is an “issue of humanity”. PM Modi along with world leaders gathered in Japan’s Hiroshima city to attend 49th G7 Leaders’ Summit. Notably, Ukrainian President Zelenskyy arrived at the Group of Seven meeting on the invitation from member countries. Briefing over PM Modi and Zelenskyy’s meeting, India’s Foreign Secretary said PM conveyed India’s message to resolve conflict through dialogue. This year the key focus area of discussion for G7 summit revolved around Ukraine Crisis along with the world’s pressing issues. Earlier while addressing the first meeting of G7 leaders on May 19 Japanese PM Kishida in his opening remarks highlighted the Ukraine crisis. Zelenskyy’s meeting with the world leaders at G7 summit was seen as broadened support for his country in its war against Russia. PM Modi attended the G7 summit on a special invitation from his Japanese counterpart Fumio Kishida. India was among the eight special invitees to attend the Group of Seven (G7) summit in Hiroshima. US, Japan, Germany, France, Britain, Italy and Canada are members of the G7 grouping. The three-day meeting was held in Hiroshima, Japan from May 19 to 21.
