Nepal’s longest fasts ends as devotees perform Madhav Narayan rituals in Bhaktapur

Bhaktapur (Nepal), Feb 02 (ANI): Standing at the edge of Hanumante Ghat in Bhaktapur, Hindu devotees braved knee-deep icy waters to perform the ritualistic holy dip, marking the conclusion of the month-long Madhav Narayan fast. Worshipped during Magh, the ninth month of the lunar calendar, Lord Madhav Narayan is revered through intense devotion and unique rituals, including ceremonial rolling on the ground. The fasting period begins on Paush Shukla Poornima and ends on Magh Shukla Poornima with the completion of the Swasthani Brata Katha. While the tradition is also observed in Sankhu, devotees say Bhaktapur offers a spiritually distinct experience. The ritual is largely followed by male devotees, while women observe the fast along the Salinadi River.
