Nepal’s Finance Minister Bishnu Paudel vowed to remove Nepal from the FATF grey list before the two-year deadline. He blamed the previous government for the country’s inclusion. Nepal was placed back on the list after the FATF plenary meeting (Feb 17-21) in Paris, having previously been listed from 2008-2014. Along with Laos, Nepal was added for anti-money laundering and counter-terrorist financing deficiencies. Despite progress, Nepal missed the October 2024 deadline. To exit, it must enforce stricter financial regulations and oversight to avoid blacklisting.
