Nepal marks Eid al-Fitr with fervour

Kathmandu (Nepal), Jun 05 (ANI): Muslims in Nepal on Wednesday celebrated Eid-al-Fitr, marking the end of the holy month of Ramadan with great fervour and festivities. The Islam followers on Wednesday gathered at the Jame Masjid in the capital city of Kathmandu to participate in prayers and exchange greetings with each other. Eid al-Fitr- Arabic for “the feast of the breaking of the fast”- when the Muslims return to regular eating cycles after undergoing vigorous fasting during the entire month of Ramadan. On this day, Muslims enjoy a small breakfast ahead of the morning prayers and then visit friends and relatives where a lavish feast is served. Gifts are also exchanged along with clothes and other presents. Nepal’s Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli also extended his wishes reiterating to consolidate the feeling of harmony and national unity in the country. The Government of Nepal on Tuesday declared a public holiday on the day of Eid Al-Fitr where Islamic devotees mark the day with offering Namaz (prayers) in the Mosque, exchanging greetings and receiving as well as giving blessings to their younger generations.
